FDA offers advice on medication disposal

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set up a Web site to give consumers advice on the best ways to dispose of certain medications. The site gives particular emphasis to the disposal of opioid painkillers, which can be harmful or deadly if taken by someone other than the person for whom they were prescribed. These drugs should also not be flushed down the toilet, officials say. The site also states that drugs not listed on the Web site should be mixed with an unpalatable substance and thrown in the trash.  Read full story >
