Immune-suppressant meds may boost bladder cancer risk

People who have autoimmune diseases and who take glucocorticoid steroids to suppress their immune system may have a higher chance of developing bladder cancer, new research suggests. For the study, scientists looked at the long-term use of these steroids in 786 bladder cancer patients and 1,083 people who did not have this cancer. They found that bladder cancer was more prevalent in patients who had used glucocorticoids over an extended period of time.  Read full story >
