Radiation from medical scans skyrocketing

U.S. patients' radiation exposure from medical scans is six times higher today than it was in 1980, researchers say. In just one year (2006), 18 million nuclear medicine exams were performed in the United States, along with nearly 380 million diagnostic/interventional radiological procedures. Scientists say exposure to radiation from medical procedures has risen 600 to 700 percent in the past 20 years, and it is now the biggest source of radiation for Americans.  Read full story >
