Childhood abuse linked to osteoarthritis

University of Toronto researchers have found that adults who experienced childhood physical abuse are 56 percent more likely to have osteoarthritis (OA) than people who were not abused. After reviewing data on self-reported childhood physical abuse and the diagnosis of OA, investigators found a "significant" relationship between the two factors. Scientists say the finding suggests the need for further research into the link between child abuse and the development of chronic illness.
