New RA drug moves forward despite failed trial

Drugmaker Rigel Pharmaceuticals is reporting that it will move forward with late-stage clinical trials for a new drug for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), even though the drug failed to meet its goals in a mid-stage trial. The drug--currently called R788--failed to perform as well as expected against a placebo in the recent trial. The late-stage trial will begin in the first half of 2010.
