Painkiller Makers Present Safety Plan to FDA

Twenty-four pharmaceutical companies that make prescription painkillers have presented U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials with their plans for curbing the abuse of these narcotic drugs. According to the Associated Press, the FDA has been pressuring these companies to develop risk-management plans in an effort to reduce both painkiller addiction and the hundreds of fatal overdoses linked to these medications. The drug companies have proposed such steps as better physician training on painkiller prescribing practices, patient education guides, and letters to doctors as part of their efforts to reduce painkiller risks.
