Rituximab Blunts Effect of Flu Vaccine: Study

People who take the drug rituximab (Rituxan, MabThera) should be given their flu vaccinations either immediately before treatment or months after receiving, Dutch researchers report. The scientists say the flu vaccines will not be dangerous to patients who take rituximab, but the medication keep patients from receiving any benefit from the vaccination. Rituximab appears to block patients' ability to develop protective antibodies after they receive the flu shot.  Read full story >
