Medication Fears Worsen Side Effects

According to a new study, patients who are worried about their medicines are more likely to suffer side effects from them. Researchers recruited 100 rheumatoid arthritis patients and asked them complete a questionnaire that measured their beliefs about the risks and necessity of their medications, as well as any side effects they experienced. The investigators found that patients who reported having concerns about their medicines were also more likely to report side effects to their doctors. While studies have not been done on drugs to treat other conditions, researchers say they would expect to find these same findings in other diseases and their meds.  Read full story >
