FDA to Re-Evaluate the Menaflex Knee Implant

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is calling together a panel of experts to re-evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Menaflex Knee Repair Implant. The device was approved in 2008 after a three-year, much-argued review, and it was approved despite objections from staff scientists. In 2009, FDA officials re-examined the approval and ruled that it was influenced by intense lobbying by lawmakers. It is highly unusual for the FDA to re-evaluate an approved medical device.  Read full story >
