Dr.Amresh Shrivastava : facts you must Know about Schizophrenia

In the present times we have two major challenges for schizophrenia.

1. Dealing with Stigma which is present since historical times and this requires specific and targeted approach for all localities an dsocieties.

2. Enhance the accessibility of early intervention: Increase opportunities and treatments. Our patients then certainly be able to live with dignity .

You speak of early prevention. I'm not sure what that means. Looking back on my early career with sza. I don't know what kind of prevention would've worked. I believe that I was predesitined to have this illness. I believe I was born with sza. The physical abuse worked on it. And then later the drug abuse brought it out. How could you intervene given those circumsatnces? Even if I didn't abuse drugs, I would still have sza to this day.

And a far as having diginity..I have alot of it. Despite my sza I live a normal life. I have a house that's paid for, 2 cars that are paid for, I retired from a job I worked at for more than 20 years. I travel alot. My bills are paid. How much more dignity do I need?

Sorry about my tone in this comment, I'm just vocal about people, especially doctors, telling me that I have no dignity and that this illness could've been prevented through early intervention. How old should I have been to stop from having this?

Some patients are lucky. Schizophrenia is a hetrogenous illness. Some patients go on to develop good prognosis. I am happy for them a all of us should be. we need to strive for such functional outcome in all of our patients. As far as  substance abuse and physical abuse is concerned, its an unfortunate situation for patients for make the illness worse.Early intervention brings out better functional outcome. You are a good example.
