Question of the Month - Experiences in the Mental Health System
I'm introducing a new feature the Question of the Month that will post on the first of every month. The first SharePost in June will be about breaking news and the second SharePost will continue the therapy theme.
In keeping with the focus on therapists: today's question is: What have your experiences been like in the mental health system? What would you change? I came across a surprising account that suggests people with schizophrenia are OK with their doctors.
78 percent of patients with schizophrenia say their psychiatrists provide explanations in a way they can easily understand.
In a new survey 80 percent of patients with schizophrenia say their psychiatrists do well or very well in treating them with courtesy and respect. At the lower high end of 66 percent: patients feel their psychiatrists are concerned for their emotional needs.
This is all very interesting.
Do your experiences with professionals like therapists and doctors mesh with these findings? Or does their ex cathedra stance leave a lot to be desired?
I'll start off the discussion with what it's been like for me.
I'd love to hear from you too.
