By Christina Bruni, Health Guide Friday, April 29, 2011

Hi,

I'd love to hear about your experiences early on and whether the SZ played out in your life according to these symptoms.

I want to stress that different mental illnesses can have the same symptoms and only a qualified professional can diagnosis what's going on.

Although I had many of these symptoms, I would have to say the most persistent and troubling was thought-blocking.  I couldn't say a sentence w/o losing my train of thought entirely.  I would be in a conversation and couldn't remember what the other person just said or what I was going to add.  My longterm therapist thought this was dissociation, but I think it was thought-blocking.  I just couldn't retain a consistent grasp of what was coming into or going out of my mind.  This just made life all the more difficult on top of the other symptoms.  Plus it left me very frustrated in therapy because I couldn't maintain a consistent level of therapeutic interchange.
