Friday I saw Dr. Altman in the City. It's the middle of the seventh month where I'm solely on the Geodon. Now more than ever I understand it's crucial to be honest with him about everything. I learned the hard way after two decades living with the SZ that any unusual thought is fair game because i...

Hi Christina, thanks for sharing.        I don't know about you, but I found out the hard way about 12 years ago that I needed a lot if meds for my illness.       Some people just do.     So what?   It doesn't mean you're worse off than the next guy, it just means that your body chemistry is different.

Here's a tip for those long subway and trail rides, which, frankly, ina big city would probably scare anyone.        Ask your doctor to provide you with PRN (as needed) emergency short-term, fast acting medication.        There are a few to choose from and I'm sure he could find one compatible with Geodon.        There is no need to suffer .           I occassionally take a PRN before going to a meeting or attending an event.

    Cheers!

Thank you for your post..again, Christina,

You know, my diagnosis was kept a secret from me for about 13 years.  I have never taken any medications for the p/sz...just anti depressants.  I have so often encouraged people with depression to surrender their pride and fear..try the medications and learn to be happy!  Don't take my advice, it is only a suggestion, and please talk with your Doc truthfully.

I have been blessed.  The anti depression meds have given me a great deal of relief, but they have NOT aided in recovery from the p/sz.  I think, reading your shares and those of other people, that I may really want to try them..what a phsyc recommends.  This would be quite a process I fear.  But I do want to try.

Thank you so much for being so honest!!!  You help me tremendously!

    With fond sincerity.

    Hi Dellea/tinker,

I'm glad you receive some benefit from reading my blog entries.

I feel it is unconscionable that your diagnosis was kept from you for 13 years.  Maybe the professionals thought they were helping you.  I hear that in past decades, nobody was given a diagnosis of schizophrenia even though they had the illness.  We can't debate what was going on in the mind of the pdoc who withheld your diagnosis.  All you can do is move forward.  If that involves seeing someone to get an adjunct medication for the SZ, and you decided to go that route, let us know so we can be there and support you.

    Peace,

    Christina

Unfortunately, I couldn't take Geodon because of side effects.  But by all means, do ask your pdoc about a dose increase if you think it would help.  I go back to my pdoc on November 5 and intend to ask for an increase in my Zyprexa.  I am having some breakthrough voices and a feeling of disconnectedness.  I am glad you have something that helps and doesn't affect your clarity of mind.

    Hi Carolyn,

Yes, your words cheer me.  I will try out the higher dose.  I'm sorry you had side effects from the Geodon.  I'm glad you'll be seeing your doctor soon.

    Regards,

    Christina
