Sad Story

By Janet Friday, October 15, 2010

I wanted to write this post to see how others feel. I mean no disrespect to the family involved and I do not know them. The story begins in a town in Indiana and it took place over a year ago. Two brothers one 17 and one 10 were at home alone while both parents worked at a casino in Indiana. The boys started to wrestle but then the older boy would not stop as his brothers was pleeding with him to stop strangling him. The older brother failed to stop thus killing his younger brother. The older brother wrapped his dead brother's body in plastic bags and drove to his girlfriends home and gave her a friendship ring and the girl had not idea the boy had just murdered his younger brother. The boy then dropped the body somewhere and went home. When his parents returned home the brother said the younger boy went to spend the night with his grandparents. In the days following the boy did admit to the killing and told where the boys body was at.The boy was arrested and taken in custody. He told police he got the idea from a t.v show called Dexter. The day the boy's trial was to begin he told lawyers he wanted to plead guilty to the murder. Now today the sentence was handed down and to me the saddest part of the whole ordeal is unfolding. The judge in the case handed down a sentence of life in prison without the possibilty of parole. The next part of the story is one where in my mind no one wins. Seems as the parents of both boys have disowened the son who commited the murder and have moved out of state. My question to everyone here is how do you feel about this story? Like i said I mean no disrespect to the parents of both boys but how can you disown her own son? To me and it is my own opinion but this boy needs help and as his parents should not you be fighting to get your son the testing to see if he is Mentally ill or not? It was on our local news that the only people in court were friends and some grandparents.

Let me close by saying I feel so Blessed that my family has totally supported me in my illness and although I have not commited a murder I feel Blessed they have always been there for me!

Hi Janet,

My second SharePost for October will be about the double murder by Eric Bellucci of his parents on Staten Island.  A friend of his posted a comment in response to an Internet article about the crime: that he was a heavy pot smoker.  It is known that the abuse of streets drugs increases the likelihood that someone with schizophrenia will commit a crime.

Stories like this and the one you mention will garner numerous responses from people from all walks of life who will chime in with their opinions about the outcome for the murderer.

I regret in the case of Eric Bellucci most online commenters had no empathy for the man accused of killing his parents and the responders felt he should do jail time.

Let me go right now and write the SharePost while it's fresh in my mind.

I regret I will be having cereal for dinner tonight as I feel compelled to tackle this subject immediately.

Hi Janet,

It is sad and heart-wrenching that the parents turned away from their son.  I can only imagine the hell they were in to find out what happened.  I cannot judge them either way though.  Their son obviously needed help long before he strangled his brother and that's when the parents needed to step in-way before this happened.  My intuition tells me they might have been latchkey kids whose parents were absence most of the time.  Do I know this for sure?  No: I do not.  We can only guess what prompted the son to strangle his brother.  The whole family might have needed some kind of counseling from the start.

Regards,

Christina
