Janet I am worried as well. Losing my healthcare would have a devastating effect.

I have insurnace through my pension and get SSD and I have Medicare.

My pension insurance doesn't pay alot of my doc bills. They rarely pay for my ECT's.

If I were to lose my benefits, which is possible, I couldn't afford my meds let alone the ECT's. My Risperadol Consta shot costs $500 every two weeks. Thankfully I only pay the $30 copay.

With the jobless rate in dire straits, I couldn't get a job to cover my house bills and medical bills. I fear that will happen.

    Peace,

    Dave

    Dave,

Nobody living in America should have to pay $12,000 a year for medication.  The drug companies shouldn't be charging those obscene prices to begin with even if you're only paying $30 for a co-pay.

    First of all Janet:

You did not fail at your Cracker Barrel job; the system failed you because of its stringent earned income requirement that you couldn't exceed or you'd risk losing your Medicare and your prescription drug benefits.  That is the real failure in America: that a person with a disability, who can nonetheless work at some limited kind of job, is denied the right to work at that job and forced into a different kind of poverty: a poverty of self-esteem.

Please Janet understand you are doing everything right in your recovery and it is no reflection on you that you are collecting a check or not working.  Your government social security benefits will not be taken away.  And if at some point the government indicated that it denied you coverage, at that point when it did deny you continued coverage you could get an attorney to appeal the decision.  A friend who got an attorney won her appeal.

You might want to lobby your state or national senators and congress persons to see about doing something about the earned income limit on SSD and SSI beneficiaries who cannot go over the limit without losing their government health insurance.

Again, as I have pointed out and as you have indicated you understand, volunteer work is the greatest good a person can do for others in the world we live on.

I respect and admire the choices you made and I stand by you and I support you in your recovery.

I wish you only joy and happiness and not much sadness if any as we all head into the fall in a couple of weeks.

Give yourself a hug: you deserve it!

    Regards,

    Christina

    Janet,

I don't know why this posted twice.

I also wanted to say one last thing:

The survival of the fittest mentality is a terrible, terrible philosophy.

We need as members of society who have good benefits and good options to protect and respect and take care of those who do not have the same benefits.

As the health care reform packages get sent around the House and Senate, I will be writing further SharePosts on this topic.

I wanted to write in again because I did not want to sound like I was minimizing your concern.  Healthcare is a basic human right, not a luxury.  I will not give up; I will fight for the rights of people to have good healthcare regardless of their income or working status.

    Regards,

    Christina
