I became a Great Aunt for the first time yesterday.  I spent most of the day at the hospital, waiting for my niece to have her baby.  Her labor only lasted about five and a half hours, though, not bad (at least from my point of view.)  I was surprised at how beautiful a newborn can be -- I had never seen a baby just after birth.  I haven't had a chance to hold her yet, but I have lots of pics.  My sister, the new grandmother, fell out of bed yesterday morning when her daughter called and said her water had broken.  And my sister almost broke her arm, hitting on a side-rail of the bed.  She had it x-rayed at the hospital while we were waiting for the baby to come.  It looked extremely swollen and painful, but fortunately it was not broken.  I told her maybe she could use it as an excuse to get another few days off work, after the holidays, so she can go play with the baby.

I have never had children of my own.  Sometimes, I wish I had.

I meant to say Congratulations!  Twins!  That will be something to talk about for a while, won't it?  My niece had told us she was pregnant last Mother's Day.  My 82 yr old mom was thrilled.  She has been praying to live just long enough to hold the baby, which she did today.
