Bobbi, you're not alone.  My mom has schizophrenia or bi-polar.  Her diagnosis depends on which doctor is giving it.  She takes her medication as prescribed, but still goes in and out of hospitals once or twice a year (more often lateley).  The rest of the time it's a balancing act to keep her safe and happy.  When she starts getting too paranoid, we know something is not right.  And believe it or not, the problem is usually because of a Urinary Tract Infection.  Older women get them a lot and it causes havoc.  I'm learning so much as I navagate my mom and myself through this horrible disease.  Heidi

I just thought of something else.  Have you heard of NAMI - Nat'l Alliance for the Mentally Ill.  There is a 12 week course called "Family to Family" given by NAMI.  It's a few hours a week, but it is so worth it.  It's taught by family members of people with a mental illness.  I wish I had taken it 20 years ago.  It would have helped me so much back then.  If you go to their website, it will have all the information, including classes in your area.  It's FREE!

    Hello Bobbi,

    You are not alone.

Heidi is right, call NAMI at (800) 950-NAMI (6264) to find a local affiliate in your area that offers the Family-to-Family class, and a weekly family support group.

I wish you to have a better situation.

    Regards,

    Chris
