My medicaid just dropped me because my unemployment and disability come together to be a higher amount of money than they require. They are refusing to pay for my meds. I'm freaking out. I can't afford medical insurance at the moment- what are my options?

Have you applied for Social Security Disability Income? I get $1013/month on SSDI. Plus after 2 years on Social Security, you are automatically eligible for Medicare. If your doctor says you are unable to work because of your disability, there are several companies onlines (like Allsup) and probably many lawyers in your area who would help you apply. And they most they can collect from you is 25% of what Social Security would owe you in back pay. In my case, it was $250. And well worth it. I was approved for SSDI in about 4 months.
Of course, I am fortunate that I also have coverage from Blue Cross Blue Shield and only have to pay $10-$35 for each prescription. I don't have Medicare Part D; I guess I don't need it.
Do you live with your parents? I lived with mine for years after I figured out that symptoms of sz would not allow me to keep any job for more than a couple of weeks. Is that an option for you? It still may not make your meds affordable. I really wish I could tell you something that would help. Like the previous poster, drug companies can often assist people who are unable to pay for their meds. I wish you the best.

I already get SSD- which is what has made the issue with medicaid. Between SSD and Unemployment, I make too much for RX assist as well as medicaid. I'm currently looking into Atlantis NY healthcare- I meet with a representative tomorrow. It's the only insurance I can afford that provides mental healthcare...
I'm not as nervous as I was when I wrote that post. I think my doctor will be able to get me medication to hold me over until I get insurance. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to get meds and as a result would slowly go mad...

I know what you mean when you write about a fear of "slowly going mad" without medication. I have the same fear. I fear traveling because I wonder what would happen if I got off to some foreign country and misplaced my meds. How fast would I relapse? I don't know. Probably within a couple of weeks.
I'm glad you have SSD but sorry it screwed up your medicaid.

If you live in New York State, the Medicaid Buy-In program might help you however I take it since you've been dropped already you do not live in New York State.
At any rate, the new Affordable Health Care option, should President Obama sign it into law, would help people like you obtain health insurance.
