Happy Thanksgiving

By Bob Stockus Thursday, November 26, 2009
I just wanted to wish everyone in the community a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope everyone is doing well. If your doing well, that's great. If your not doing so well, hang in there and remember that there is always tomorrow. And whatever you do stay with your treatment, which includes your doctor and by all means your medicine. I myself am doing fairly well although these past months I have the very strong feeling that I am being followed. My doctor says that it is just my paranoid thoughts getting the best of me. But for the life of me it all seems so real. Anyway seeing as how Thanksgiving Day is a special day in our country,I am going to do my best to make today a great day for myself. I hope everyone in the community can do the same as well. Once again Happy Thanksgiving and keep looking forward to the future and not to the past. Bob

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!  I helped my mom prepare Thanksgiving dinner for 18 and all went well.  Some of my family has really suffered great financial loss from the recession, but we were all thankful we still have each other.  And it was interesting because my niece's baby is due in 5 weeks, and she and her husband were there.  My aunt and Mother are in their 80's and were both there.  And everyone in-between.  So next year (and maybe for Christmas this year) we will have a baby.  A little one to join in and carry on our traditions.  I read Psalm 100 and recited the names of the loved ones who have gone on before us over the last decade.  I have lost a father and sister and favorite uncle and others have lost parents and siblings.  I felt their spirits were there with us.  It was a very special day.

Then Mom and I were left to sit and watch the Cowboys play football.  I went home at the end of third quarter because it appeared the 'boys would win.  I used to find holidays terribly stressful and would do everything I could think of to avoid the family get-togethers.  But now they are more welcome; I can relax and take part in life again.  And for that, I am truly Thankful.

Thanksgiving dinner came together. At some point we had said we were not going to cook.  Mom went to the store and bought a frozen turkey after all. Mom's stuffing recipe made since to me after she told me a half a pan of cornbread replaced and some crackers in the blender replaced Pepperidge farms brand stuffing.  Dad asked to put grands biscuits into the stuffing but we had dinner rolls instead. Mom says "You can't put bleached white bread into stuffing." my concentration years past had been bad. The recipe didn't stick in my head before like it did this year.
