I started doing yoga in highschool and still use one meditation technique that the teacher taught us. You light a candle, sit straight and stare at the flame. Look at the flame and breathe deeply. Then after a couple of minutes cup your hands over your closed eyes and see the afterglow.

Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 02:42 AMDear Robin,
I really don't know of any beginner yoga books but; television is a good way to begin.Around 6AM Wai Lana teaches yoga on public television and on Fit TV they have good yoga lessons throughout the day at various times. You can look yoga up on the internet and there are web sights that show yoga postures, or just go to the book store or a yoga store oneday and you can have your pick of yoga merchandise. The important thing to remember is to take it easy just attempt at the beginning and let the progress happen little by little.
Kind regards
Eric

Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 11:34 AMHello Eric Klieman,
It's good to see your post on Hatha Yoga.
I had taken yoga classes five years ago before my work schedule interfered.
Two weeks ago, I arrived at the gym early enough to take a Hatha yoga class. It lasted one hour. The best part was at the end, lying on my back with my eyes closed and just resting. The gym provides colorful wool blankets in the exercise studio so you can keep warm during this part of the class.
Do you recommend Bally's? What kinds of exercise classes does it offer? How about the machines?
Regards,
Chris

It's nice to hear from you.
I go to Bally';s because I've got a good deal. It's cheap, your gym sounds nicer if they provide blankets. But Bally's is good they have some yoga, pilates, dance and kickboxing classes. They have all the machines and depending on the neighborhood steam and sauna. Go and look at one of the Bally's gyms near you and check it out.

Eric:
I've never tried yoga, but you make it sound so attractive.
I think it might just help me unwind (or perhaps not get wound up in the first place). But I have trouble finding time to go out for classes. Can you recommend a good book on yoga for the beginner.
I'm sixty-five and don't bend very well. I also have a lot of physical illnesses that limit my mobility, so please be kind, recommend a beginner's book for beginning beginners.
