Clozaril

By earlyriser Saturday, February 26, 2011

A recent question about Clozaril prompted me to write this post. Let me say that I am not a pdoc or clinician.

I took Clozaril for a number of years. The med is amazing. I felt the best in my life while on it. One of the side effects it lowers white blood cells (agranulocytosis). That is why I needed weekly CBC tests.

About 1%-2% of those who took the med develop agranulocytosis.

I was recently contacted about a study about agranulocytosis. I will have a blood test done, here in a little while for that study. The hope is (and I share this same hope) that researchers will be able to find out the reason why Clozaril does that to a small number of those who take it. The study wants to find a test that will predict warnings for potential patients that may develop the adverse side effect.

As always consult with a pdoc.

Hi David,

Clozaril is a miracle for a lot of people who don't see results with other drugs.

It does have side effects though like agranulocytosis.

Let us know how the study goes.

Regards,

Christina
