Quite a year

By earlyriser Saturday, December 31, 2011

2011 is a year soon not to be forgotten. I started off the year dealing with my younger brother's untimely death. Another brother has disowned me for reasons only beknownst to him. I was in the hospital two times and at the crisis center three times. Reached the lowest point of my life. I employed the aid of a therapist. Resumed ECT's. I endured a hurricane, tropical storm and a devastating flood (in three weeks). I have recently sprained my ankle while walking down steps. My wife is very ill.

BUT! You know what? I am good. Despite all the tragedy and trials, the ups and downs I have faced, I have learned a lot about human nature. I have come to know that even in the darkest of days I am able to focus just enough positive energy to get back on my feet. My faith in my community has increased. During the flood the whole community came out to help each other. It is heart warming to know that people do care. It still brings tears of joy to my eyes of all the good things that happened during that disaster. My faith in God has strengthened. My beliefs helped me through the dark and low times. If wasn't for that I would be a mess still.

I look forward to 2012 with excitement and imagination of a child. I have plans that I will work on daily. I have things that need to be fixed and good things that need to be used more often. There's a song lyric, my favorite, that goes "I may not know where I'm going, but I sure know where I've been". I may not know what the new year holds for me, but I do know that whatever comes my way I will be able to overcome. If its an obstacle, I will learn to resolve it. I will also use the trials I go through as a learning experience. Everything I do is for my own good. I will cherish the good and take the bad and use it to better myself. I look forward to whatever life gives me.

I wish you all a Blessed and Happy New Year.

David

Hi David,

"Embrace the struggle," as I always say.  I have my faith and I'm glad you have yours to keep you going.

I'm reminded of the Tina Turner quote:  "Whatever happens in life, just keep on going."  We can all learn something from her too.  She was a survivor of abuse who used her talent to entertain others and in so doing she changed the world.  I have two of her CDs.

People coming together is a beautiful thing.

A song I like is the Miley Cyrus song "The Climb," it's so inspirational.  I suggest you try to listen to it.  It's about how there are always going to be mountains you have to move and life is an uphill battle and sometimes you're going to lose.  You triumph when you realize it's not about achieving the goal, it's about the journey or as Miley says "the climb."

It's about the climb.  It always is.

Cheers,

Christina

My prayers are with you.  My deepest condolences to you for the loss of your brother.  I lost my youngest brother last year so I can relate.  My mother just passed away last month so this year has been rough for me as well.  Keep your head up, this year with your attitude will bring you much happiness.

Take care and happy new year!

Rene
