The Epic Oddessy: A SZ Parent's Journal

On March 31, 2007, Adam, 21,  suffered a pscyhotic break that resulted in an involuntary committment to the local emergency room... and in a massive situational earthquake in the life and dreams of Adam and our family.

Hospitalizations ensued. A SZ diagnosis emerged, then solidified. There followed partial hospitalization, then  outpatient, then individual care. Later came the additional challenge of a dual diagnosis.

We are now amidst an intensive long-term treatment plan. The trend line is inching up, though the amplitude of the oscillations is wide. Journaling has been a critical therapy for this previously frightened, now fortified and faithful, though sometimes still fretful father.

Is this SharePost an appropriate place for a parent to share his experience? Does this community care to read some of what he journals?

Welcome to the Connection. I'm sorry to hear that your son has sz. I hope you will find peace and support here. I would love to read your son's journals. There also is a place on this site for family members. Feel free to write in youself, your insights could help another family dealing with a sz member.

Sincerely,

David

Many thanks for your note of welcome and kind words. Actually, the journal is mine, not my son's.  That's what I asked if it would be appropriate. You think it would be ok?

I think it would be fine.

Hello Sz Parent,

You are most welcome here, as is everyone who post.

We are the only community on the Web where family members and those diagnosed with schizophrenia can keep blog entries, without having to be "chosen" by the Web master.  So any time you want to post, you certainly can.

Also, please note:  at some time in the future, I will be seeking family members (mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives) to interview over the phone for a focus group about coping with a loved one's schizophrenia.  You may be interested in reading this blog entry when it does post.  I will be sending a call out for interviewees shortly.

Again, welcome!

Best regards,

Chris

Tom,

have just come across your posting and am glad it has received welcoming responses. I have recently joined this site, which seems very caring, and have been encouraged.

Like you I have been thinking of putting up a journal entry,if it would be OK, as I believe it will help me as parent to a dear son struggling with this disease. (Our son now 28 and as yet not formally diagnosed, therefore wthout treatment as yet)

Will look out and forward to your posts,

Good luck

Chris UK
