Hello... my mother had her first breakdown when I was about 11 years old. When my dad passed away 5 1/2 years ago, Mom was unable to live alone so I and my family (husband and our 5 children) moved in with her. In the last 5 1/2 years, particularly the last 2 years, her condition has deteriorated at ...

    Hi f8ed4music:

If you are lookiing for information I can recommend two closely related sources in addition to this website.

First of all you can SharePost or e-mail one of the professional providers (doctors) at this site.

Second, go to www.nami.org.  They have an abundance of information in their archives and carry some very helpful books in their book store.

Third, while you're online at www.nami.org, look up your local NAMI Chapter.  They can be very helpful too.  Also ask them about their Family to Family class.  The class is a great way to learn more about mental illness along with others that are in situations similar to yours.

And please continue to SharePost to let us all know how things progress.  You have friends here.

Hi Robin... I appreciate your advice. I have checked into NAMI including my local chapter which isn't as local as I would need it to be to be involved with them for things like weekly courses, etc. I was really just wondering if anyone knew anything about the long term effects of this illness. I've never been able to find any studies on it online or anything. I thought that by posting this sharepost I might get some feedback from the "experts". Maybe I can figure out how to email one of them or something. Thanks.
