About Me

I lived the first half of my life (22 years) with my mother who has paranoid schizophrenia. My father died when I was four years old and much to her credit, my mother raised me all by herself. It was extremely difficult for both me and my mother but in looking back I am grateful that she did raise me and nobody else. I would like to share my experiences here as both a cartharsis for me and to honor my mother. When I was living with my mother I didn't know anyone else who was in my situation. I wish to reach out to those who are suffering from this mental illness as well as their loved ones and say that you are not alone in this. I also have over ten years of professional experience working as developmental therapist with adults who had a dual diagnosis of both mental retardation and mental illness. I am ten credits shy of obtaining my Master's degree in Social Work and I also have years of experience volunteering in the mental health field. One way to survive the life you have been given is to share the experience with others. I hope that I can help in my small way by sharing my stories here with you.
