Selena33:
If you are care for even one person with schizophrenia, you need help. If your overwhelmed you won't be able to help them. Remember when you fly that the preflight instuctions always tell you in case of loss of cabin pressure, you should put your oxygen mask on first and then your child's. Same thing here.
Christina is right. Contact NAMI at www.nami.org. They can help you right at home.

Hello Selena33,
You say you feel helpless, and that is a natural feeling for a mother and wife who cares so much for her family.
To get empowered, I suggest you attend a support group for family members dealing with their loved ones' mental illness.
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, offers family support groups at their local affiliates. You can dial 1 (800) 950-NAMI, their hotline, to find information about a support group in your area.
Also, I recommend you take NAMI's "Family-to-Family" 12-week educational course that gives you some coping skills and suggestions about how to resolve conflict and deal with your own needs as well as those of your husband and children.
Try to think of the good things that you have. It can get better if your children commit to taking their medication and staying in treatment.
How old are your children? Based on how old they are, you have different options. Let us know and I will give you some more ideas.
Above all, know that anyone who has a mental illness wants you to see him or her as a person first, not the illness. It may be hard to see their good qualities when the illness takes over, I understand, yet try to do this.
It's vital for you to get support and maybe even have your own therapist as well as a support group.
Feel free to write in again.
Regards,
Chris
