Happy Holidays!

By Rene Victor Friday, December 23, 2011

Work is going great, we are going to hit the 3 million mark by next week!  That leaves us a little short of our goal for this year but we almost doubled our numbers from last year.  I'm really excited about 2012!

The NAMI meeting really went well last night.  It was primarily an open discussion and we all had a chance to share some of experiences and ask general questions to other members.  I talked about how much I missed my mom and how I felt guilty that I put her through the things I did.

I also shared my milestone of sobriety time and talked about how my daughter may soon be moving in with me.  She will be 18 on Jan 25th and is just not getting along with her mom; she is smoking weed, and has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and refuses to take medication.  This will be a huge challenge for me since I pretty much kicked her to the curb when I was using. 15 years went by before we reunited.  I'm just grateful that she allows me to be part of her life today.

I think I will be presented with my 6 year token next Tuesday which just so happens to be on my birthday and the 40th day since my mom passed.

I miss my mom and youngest brother dearly and it will be tough to spend Christmas without them.  But I am holding my chin up and really working on the NAMI Principle, "We won't judge anyone's pain as less than our own".

Everyone enjoy the holidays!

Hi Rene,

It's good to hear from you.

I'm sorry your daughter won't get help for her bipolar.  I would if I were you hold out the hope that things can change.  A significant number of people with bipolar abuse drugs.  Certain people with bipolar do smoke weed to alleviate their symptoms.

I'm glad the support group is working for you.  Oh how I wish I had a support group to go to.  Where I live people who work have no options.

Best wishes for the new year.

Cheers,

Christina
