animal therapy

Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 12:09 PMChris, TY. I have dogs..two of my own and two my room mates. My 6 year old Schnauzer often sits on the bed next to me as I text here and watches as I take my right hand and give him snuggle once every few minutes. He is a lovely dog, and I sometimes feel bad because he doesn't really act very doggie. A month or so ago we had a small rat on the porch so I opened the door to him and expected nothing. He snatched the rat and in one second a quick shake and no more live rat. I was and am very proud..he is a dog. His son is a 5 year old 1/2 Chihuahu and a real head case. I raised him the same as his father but he is nothing like him. Very spoiled, often nasty and arrogant. He's bitten me in his protection, yet the things I have had to do are constants like cut nails, clean ears, hair on paws, bathe, groom ect. Most of the time there is a nasty tooth growl and a nip. I blew the first breath into this dog and he almost hates me. this has shown me that you can treat one individual the SAME as another and it is not my fault if one has an easier life or not. Helps with my understanding of children now. Anyway, it is good to hear animal lovers like me. I always feel better when I know that there are people with goodness and they are in contact with my sphere of the Universe. It's also so good to know that I am not unique..never will be. with fondness, and thx again tinker/Dellea

Thank you Chris for sharing your life with us. I rely on your posts and your comments. You inspire me. I would love to hear your cat stories. Animals are great therapy. A few weeks back I saw a clip on the news where they use dogs in Iraq to help the soliders relieve stress. The power that dogs have (cats too) is amazing. How can you resist those puppy eyes? I give in to puppy eyes all the time. Frappe, my constant companion is sleeping right behind my chair. When I cook he gives me puppy eyes until I "accidently" drop something on the floor for him. One day this month I was at the stove for 2 1/2 hours, Frappe never left the kitchen. I rewarded him for his patience.
My grandson, he's 4 loves my fish tanks. One of the first things he does when he gets here is look at the fish. We recently started a saltwater tank. We have a "Nemo" fish. When Dylan saw the "Nemo" he stared at that tank for hours. When he left he kissed Nemo goodbye.
Thank you Chris. Be well and be happy,
Dave
