I've called my mental illness a number of things. A journey, an illness, a path, a blessing, a way of life,  a curse, a sickness, a condition. Now I'm gonna call it a career. A job. Like any job, I must work to accomplish the end product. My sza is with me 24/7 with no time off. Unl...

    Hi Dave,

So glad you found ways to re-energise on your 'holiday' from the board, (I suppose I should say vacation!)

More power to your elbow as the old saying goes here!

I read somewhere today that we can only 'give' emotional support from our own 'overflow, what we have to spare', implying taking care of ouselves, valuing ourselves is central to build up the supply.

I think it is wonderful you clearly have some extra to share and spread.....

Your ideas for reaching out are spot on for importance surely. (schools and police) What a great idea.

Recently I have been heartened to hear that there is a definite movement afoot in many countries to connect with the school system, and encourage bridges for early  and safe support  of 'troubled'  and increasingly isolated youngsters, (who could hopefully feel safe enough to self present to access appropriate services alongside more general awareness and education around mental health issues in friends and classmates.

Good luck with these exciting ventures!

    Best wishes,

    Chris,

    UK

Thank you Chris for your wonderful, supportive nature. I must say, however, that the idea to talk to police is Christina's idea. I want to talk to schools to face a demon. I'm terrified of teenagers. I'm setting my fear aside, so that maybe a teenager who is sick and has no where to turn, can seek help. I wish there was someone that could have guided me when I was a sick 17 year old. In a sense I'm passing the torch.

Hi Dave,  As I said in an earlier post, I think there should be regular mental health screenings for school-age children and teens.  I would have given anything to know someone cared that I was depressed and psychotic.  My parents would not have understood and would not have known what to do about it.  I really wanted to talk to a school counselor but was afraid to.  If the counselor had "screened" me, that would have been a perfect opportunity.

I am still trying to educate my family about what MI is, especially sz.  I think they understand depression now, but I think they believe sz is too far out there to understand.  But really, it is probably just too scary or so strange that it sounds unbelievable.

    Keep up the good work.
