hello family and this is ysraal here and I wish us all hope. In a sense we are all special for we are all a strong people to live with this illness. We all know how strong this illness is but we must know there is hope. Our illness has been around for a very long time and there are many good people who are trying to help us in all kinds of ways and there will be many after us that unfortunately will contract our illness. the best thing that I believe we can do is to work with our providers and try to move forward in our illness and forward is recovery, a very personal entity that is our own individual as unique as our voice and breath. I have just completed a very long task, the task of connecting my illness to my service in the US Marine Corps where i had " several hysterical violent episodes" after two years in service and right before my 23rd birthday. my life has been like a nightmare and dreamy since. Until i sought out treatment. i have been in treatment now for about 8 years and have been through many doctors and much meds and i have had setbacks but i refuse to quit. my illness will not quit so why should I.Part of me connecting my illness to my service I had to face a panel of three mental health professionals and they asked me many questions over a 2 hour period but the one question that still sticks out was Did i think treatment works at which i answered NO I know treatment works. I say to all to please work with your providers and if you feel that you are not comfortable or getting results or moving forward, do not despair, for we have an illness that will tell you that you are not sick. Just keep trying to get better. help will come.I have been able to talk to some of the top doctors in the country concerning schizophrenia and they treated me like a person for i am and that made me feel great. i have ad the recent honor of talking with Ellyn Saks, a lawyer, law professor and person with schizophrenia and then watched her and Dr Fred Frese as panelist on minds on the edge, a program and you may be still able to goole minds on the edge and hear the program. regardless good people, great people we are people and we must just try to move forward more and we can. have a great day.
