cry for help
David Robbins
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 01:15 PMI lived with abuse for many years. I was 13 when my life changed for the worst. By 17 I ended up in a hospital. Don't think this will happen to you.. not all that we go through comes out the same. I would seek help. Start with your school counselor. Talk to a teacher. Talk to someone you trust. Talking to someone will help.

Hope

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 01:42 PMHi helpkid,
There is hope. I echo Carolyn and Dave in that you would benefit from talking to your school counselor.
When I was 13, I attended therapy, too. It helped me a lot. You are not alone.
There is hope and there is help. You don't have to keep all your feelings to yourself. A caring, understanding therapist would listen to you without judgment and help you cope with what's going on in your life.
Also, you are welcome to continue writing SharePosts here. This web site is for anyone affected by a mother's SZ or another loved one's illness, not just people diagnosed with SZ.
Like the others said, please it's best not to worry you'll develop SZ. It's possible you won't. For support of what you're going through, find a counselor or therapist who talks with teens. You can find one on what's called a "sliding fee scale" if you don't have health insurance.
Best wishes,
Christina

Is there any way you can see a therapist for adolescents? It can really help a lot to have someone to talk to (in person) about your mom and your wanting to self-harm. Do you have any health insurance? If so, check the policy to see if therapy visits are covered. I used to cut myself when I was younger and wished later that I had sought early treatment. By the way, self-harm tendencies do not lead to schizophrenia and are not symptoms of schizophrenia. Anyone can self-harm if the pain they feel inside is strong enough.
Best wishes,
Carolyn
