I found a reference to a study that was done in Europe, that found N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) has a beneficial therapeutic effect for those with schizophrenia. I bought a bottle at the local Whole Foods for $9, and have been trying it for a week now. The idea is that N-Acetyl Cysteine is a precursor of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects organs and cells from damage by free radicals. So far, it seems the supplement has sharpened my thoughts and increased mental clarity -- in fact, I've felt close to normal on several occasions these few days, and have identified, at least preliminarily, the NAC as the agent that has effected this change.

I'll keep you posted as I sort all the data, in order to reach a sound conclusion about the supplement's effects. In the meantime, the NAC is proven to be beneficial and cleansing for your body, by fighting free radicals.

Hi Stephanista,

If that's what works for you, by all means, I'm glad you found something that works.

Cheers,

Christina

Wikipedia says that 'NAC has been shown to reduce the symptoms of both schizophrenia[15] and bipolar disorder[16] in two placebo controlled trials.' So This is a new one I am going to get for my wife. Thanks Stephanista!!  And for me too! Since I am manic depressiveCool

Im going to try it for Bipolar Disorder.

The study I read said it is also good for kidney disease.

Also, the study said it is in US clinical trial and results seemed very strong but that the participants took the supplement in addition to reg meds.
