Since starting on Zoloft 3 days ago, I have already gained weight. I don't really know why, because it is apparently not associated with weight gain. I don't really know what to do about this. I can see this becoming a problem, as I am already overweight. Well, let's just see how it goes until the ne...

Don't you hate it when that happens.  To gain weight that fast probably means it is making you retain water, although I know that is small consolation.

The last time I went from 10mg of Zyprexa to 20mg, I gained 9 lbs in one week.  I felt so discouraged.  When I was fat, I would rather stop the meds and be psychotic.  When I was psychotic I would rather take the meds and be fat.  So that it was a constant battle between the two.   A difficult choice that doctors don't understand.

But I wish the best for you.  I am on Zoloft (200mg/day) and am happy to say I have had no weight gain or other negative side effects.  Another thing you might want to know -- my psychiatrist also prescribed Deplin (a derivative of folate) at 7.5mg/day.  He said it boosts the effectiveness of the Zoloft.  So far, so good.

The folate thing is interesting.. i wonder if that would stop the weight gain. It is all very frustrating. Anyway. Thanks Carolyn.

    Hello MyAnimus,

I understand how you feel about weight gain because I used to be 20 lbs overweight.

The medications used to treat schizophrenia don't help in this regard.

Please try to be kind to yourself about this.

    Regards,

    Christina
