Just the other day I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I was shocked, I didn't know what to think. Can I recover from this. Can I lead a normal life?

Hello,
Welcome to the Connection!
Yes you can recover. Yes you can have a normal life. Read my SharePosts here, read the other community members' SharePosts, read my profile, read everyone else's profiles.
People with schizophrenia and schizoaffective and other mental illnesses can do great things and have full, productive, happy lives. We can go to school and hold jobs. We can be in relationships and we can marry. We can do all of the things that people who do not have a diagnosis can do.
Define normal. I submit there's no such thing. However: you can have a good life. Call it a normal life if you want, I call it a good life.
I have a Masters in Library and Information Science that I obtained 13 years after I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I'm set to own my apartment. I have friends and family I spend time with.
So yes, yes, yes you can recover.
Best wishes,
Christina
Yes you can live a good life. I have had SZA for 31 years. If you want to know about material sucess or other successes I have many of both. I am retired, own my home, own two cars all of which is paid for, no credit card debt. I heard voices for 28 years non-stop, now I rarely here any. I am not paranoid, delusional. I am an Elder in the church. Never been in jail. I am on two neighborhood committees. I quit drinking 21 years ago, stopped caffeine 20 years ago, quit smoking 19 years ago.
So you see you can live a good life, materially, physically, spirituallly. Having SZA IS NOT AN END TO ALL THINGS. For me it was a begining.
