Hard to be friends

By PortMea Monday, May 11, 2009

My ex friend, "Debbie" has schizo and abuses alcohol. She thinks I tried to burn her house down, Its too hard to be her friend so I had to quit her.

Hello PortMea,

You have to do what you feel you have to do.  I am sorry to hear you had that kind of experience with someone who has SZ.  Not everyone with SZ is like that.

Christina

I'm sorry your had to end your friendship. Abusing alcohol with SZ is never a good idea, especially if meds are involved. I agree with Christina, you did what you had to do.

Most people with SZ are really cool. We are productive and have alot of good qualities.

My recovery took off when I quit drinking. Life is good right now.

I'm an all for meds man. I believe that without meds, I would not be at this computer right now. Meds help control my psychosis and my mood. Drinking on top of meds hurts that person and everyone they love. It's been said that alcoholism is a family disease. Trust me it is.

I wish you the best. Feel free to stop by the Connection.

Dave

A few years ago, I began a friendship with a friend who was diagnosed as bipolar.  But she was also very paranoid.  After we went out together a few times, she began to believe that I was conspiring with her mother to hurt her financially.  I had only met her mother in passing and never even spoke to her other than to say, "Hello."  After this and several similar events, I told her I sympathized with her plight but would not be able to be her friend anymore.  To spite me, she moved away. (ha)

It is okay to end friendships under circumstances like these.
