after weeks of cutting down my meds

By mimi Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Hello everyone,

I wanted to bring everyone up to date .Its been over a month I cut my medications down.

I cut my seroquel dosage from 800 to 400.

I cut risperadone out completly a few weeks ago .

The results of cutting down my dosage is not good. The paronoia is coming back.

I hate feeling this way, its mild not like before ,but none the less it bothers me.

My mind is not sharp like before its a little scattered.

I cant wait to meet with my Doctors they must quickly put me on diffrent medications asap.

I am afraid that I will not get through this fast enough.

I hope you are all reading this dont play with your medications !!!

I had no choice or I did and had to do things my way.

Well I dont know what else to say, so I'll keep you all posted.

Hi Mimi,

I suggest that right away you double back up to the doses you were originally taking.

The longer you go without meds, even, the longer you take too low a dose, the greater the risk that you will no longer realize you are ill, and you'll believe in your delusions, and get sick.

Please, consider going back up to the original doses RIGHT NOW, not waiting until you see your doctor.

I know plenty of people who were on medications that made them fatigued, and they were able to hold jobs and do well.  There are somtimes adjunct meds that can counter the sleepiness or drowsiness or fatigue.

For 18 years, I was late to nearly every job I had because the Stelazine made me fatigued in the morning.  That's not to say it's acceptable to be late for work all the time.  What it does point out is that you have options for the kinds of work you get, and the schedules, while you remain on the Seroquel and Risperdal.

A change of meds could possibly benefit you if you make that decision in consult with the psychiatrist.  Until you are able to see him or her, please, please, do take your meds at the prescribed dose every day.

Respectfully,

cb

Years ago I played with my meds only to get sick. I decided to give meds an honest try and see the difference between meds and no meds. Meds won out. The good news is that there are so many meds available, your pdoc can tailor them to meet your needs. Remember how you feel now. I will not forget the pain and suffering I felt when I wasn't med complaint. I feel better and can live a good life. I wish you well. And like Christina said, Get back on your meds.

I agree 100% to with what Christina and David said.In my 25 years of living with schizoaffective illness I have been on a wide array of medication but I would never even dream of changing any dosage without the conscent of my doctor! I also believe the longer you wait to talk to your doctor the hard you will fall. Why don't you call your doctor and explain to him what you did and why and then ask him for his advice. Sorry if I sound like I am preaching but all I really care about is what happens to you!

Hi Mimi -- sometimes (many times) I don't take the prescribed dose of Zyprexa because of side effects.  Back between 1995 and 2002 I was hospitalized 18 times for playing with the meds.  Since then I have grown more aware of my symptoms and when it is absolutely necessary to take the meds as prescribed.  And I do so.  But I walk along a precipice on one side and a flat terrain on the other.  One misstep and I will fall off into the black pit again.

I can understand that I need blood pressure, thyroid, depression, and GERD medications and I take them faithfully.  But somehow, when I start feeling well on Zyprexa, I think I don't really need it anymore.  And I "try out" going off of it.  I think, "Well, maybe I am over it now."  And that is never true.  I always go back to it in a panic when I start having symptoms again.  I also don't like the side effects.

But I desperately WANT to take it.  It's like I am halved and one side is reasonable and the other side is totally irrational, and they constantly vie for my attention.  I KNOW I need the Zyprexa every day.  It continues to be a problem for me and my therapist was really of no help.  She just suggested I tell my psychiatrist and see what he says -- fat chance.  He rarely listens and even more rarely responds in any helpful way.

I really emphasize with you.  But you are feeling bad enough now that you know you need the meds.  Take them and feel better.  That makes sense doesn't it?
