Got the urine bag off today

By MichelleP Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Went a couple times today though I didn't feel any pressure. Sometimes I go in the bathroom several times to try to go.  The nurse told me to drink plenty of fluids..  She said if I don't I won't be able to go.  No idea what is wrong still or what caused this.  The doctor looked for side effects to the medication in some booklet and couldn't find anything to connect it to the medicine.  So we'll see.  If I can't go again I got to go to the ER again to get another bag on.

Hi Michelle,

This is a PS to my comment on your last post.

Hope things are settling down.

This side effect is unusual but still well recognised with atypical and older antipsychotics, and can happen with Risperdal although it that drug is considered less 'anticholinergic than other meds in the group.

I will try and give a link to the drug manufacturer's blurb.Hope it helps you get things sorted with your docs.

Sorry, the info is very long, and of course mostly not applicable to you but the medics should find the info listed under anticholinergic effects 'urinary retention'

Here goes:http://www.merck.com/mmpe/lexicomp/risperidone.html#N186B9E

Hope this helps.

Hii Michelle,

This is your other pharmacist friend. I agree with Chris. Another way is to Google "problem urinating/risperidone" It's even sited as a side effect in some Law firm Web sites.

If you've never had a symptom before, and you start a new drug and have that symptom, you have to consider the drug as the offending agent.

Hi Michelle,

Yes do go on those websites and print out the info and take it to your doctors.

Christina
