Finally, the last agreement, seemingly the easiest, but not so, is Do your best every day. Now, your best will change from day to day, depending on how you feel and what the circumstances are. You might be sick, you might be tired etc. But if you do your best for that time and that day, you can go to bed with a heart at ease and a mind ready to sleep peacefully...and wake to welcome another bright new day.
When I was at my lowest point in the hospital, which was almost every day, but about a week and a half into my stay, I finally remembered these Four Agreements, and decided I would write them down every day in my journal, those and ten positive things about myself. Of the ten, I could only find five, so I wrote five more that I wished for in the future, and for the next week and a half I wrote the Four Agreements and the Ten Positive Things About Myself at the start of my journal page every morning. The Four Agreements told me how to approach the day, and the TPTAM gave me the 'oomph" to go for it.
In case anyone is reluctant to get and /or read another book, this one is very short and small, maybe five inches square and a half inch thick (hard cover at that). Even so, you can skip the beginning if you want and go straight to the Agreements, though I liked the whole discussion. However, I would recommend reading from the last agreement through to the end as his discussion of Love and Happiness is tremendous and uplifting and beautiful. The book should be a must for anyone struggling with how to live with mental illness or how to maintain recovery.

I read that book. I found it to very helpful. I don't remember the agreements that well. Thank you for sharing. I think I will go out and buy the book. I do know I enjoyed it.
Thank you,
Dave
