Monday, November 19, 2007 at 05:33 PMHello morelli,
Janet is right. The sooner you get professional help, the better your outcome will be. To delay help will often cause the illness to get worse over time.
3 Million people in the United States live with schizophrenia. That's not shabby. We all live with what you go through.
I urge you to read the SharePosts of the experts, those living with it, and those who identify as "recovered."
Now, some NAMI local affiliates will suggest a good psychiatrist if you call them up, others won't, so a good start is www.nami.org
Or call their hotline:
1 (800) 950 NAMI (6264)
I know someone at NAMI, I will ask him either tonight or tomorrow what NAMI's policy is on doctor referrals. Maybe you could tell us your City/State and someone who posts comments on SchizophreniaConnection could offer a referral to a good psychiatrist.
Either way, you could benefit from a NAMI Peer Support support group, and calling the number I gave you, the hotline person will be able to hook you up with a support group in your area.

Living in Hell

Monday, November 19, 2007 at 10:50 PMHi Morelli:
Janet and Christina are both right. There are millions of us in this country that have schizophrenia like you. Although the experience of any two people with this illness is not precisely the same, most of what we experience is very, very similar. Keep talking to us through SchizophreniaConnection. I've had intruding thoughts and fears (even terror) much like yours that I could not get rid of - UNTIL - I saw a psychiatrist. It took us a while, but together we found a pill for me that made the voices go away.
Christina is right about contacting NAMI. They can be very helpful. If they tell you that as a matter of policy that they cannot recommend a psychiatrist, do what I did. Say "OK. I can understand that." But then ask them which psychiatrists their member like - LIKE, not recommend. They may tell you. If you don't get anywhere with that e-mail me at robin.cunningham1@gmail.com, tell me where you live and I'll see if I can help.
Robin

Wednesday, January 09, 2008 at 06:55 PMHey there,
I've been through exactly the same thing. I even destroyed a neighbours satellite dish with a hammer. I was completely insane. Then I realised I was dealing with demons which brought me to God.
Dude, hang in there, don't lose hope. Pray every day. These devils may have a hold of your mind but don't let them possess your heart. Stay strong and beleive.

Living in Hell with Schizophrenia,an unwelcome guest !

I want this mental disease to go away.It just took away what sanity i have left.I live in fear and anxiety due to my voices say they are not voices but my neighbours.I am conv...

Before I make my comment I have a question for you. Have you seen a doctor or a psychiatrst and told them what you are experiencing?
As for my comment I want to hopefully offer you some HOPE! Iam 47 years old and was first diagnosed at the age of 23 with schizoaffective disorder. The disorder is a combination of depression and schizophrenia. I have gone thorough exactly what you are going through but I pleased to report with proper medication from my psychiatrist along with his knowledge of schizophrenia I consider myself very stable. Sure I have my good days along with bad ones but then who doesn't?
I hope if you have not already searched for some type of professional help that you will consider to do so. I know some people don't like the thought of having to take medication but if it makes one feel better than why not.
I would like to close by saying I hope you find help through this site and you keep reading what others have to say and how they cope with this terrible illness.
May God Bless All of us and our families!
