Howdy Folks ! Well, I've got one part-time job and I've got another on the stove !
The job I have is playing piano at an old age home and I'm really enjoying it.
I started last week and although it took a while to learn some of the old songs, I think I've got a grip on them now They have a dementia ward at the place where I play and it does my heart good knowing that I'm hopefully bringing some joy into those people's lives. My step-father has dementia so I'm hoping that I can learn about this illness first - hand. The home itself is very nice. It's privately owned with a lavish decor, the pets and music make it seem so peaceful. Nurse are everywhere and everyone seems to have lots of personal attention and TLC.
I played for forty minutes minutes last week, with my play-list going from" It's a Long Way to Tipperary" to" Old Clementine". I got an enthusiastic response, some people singing along others clapping or applauding when I finished. I going to enjoy Wednesday evenings.
There is another job I'm looking into, and though it may take a while to get it, I think it will be fun. It involves PR work for a commercial farm just outside of town. I have a wonderful job-coach at a vocational employment service and he will be able to work out the details. Some work will have to be my own, however. I am in the process of getting a pardon for some crimes that I did thirty years ago. The most serious of these was possession of marijuana so it should be easy. But government moves slowly so it will be a few months before it goes through. Luckily, the PR job will wait.
Meanwhile, I'm waiting but on a completely different issue.
I've had several attacks of acute paranoia in the last couple of months and I didn't have the resources to deal with them. I thought of putting myself in hospital but I was too scared to use the phone. I took my prescribed PRN but in each case I got no relief. They ended after two or three hours, each of them.
When I saw my psychiatrist this week, after a few other checks, she found out what had happened. In order to cut costs, our wonderful Canadian Government had put me on a form of Zyprexa that she did not prescribe. I take 50/mg day of that drug so the change hit me pretty hard. Anyway, to make a long story short, she has applied for the special govt approval to have me on the form that works best for me. I'm just waiting now.
