Suicide
Schizophrenia has one of the highest suicide rates among all mental illnesses. An estimated 20 to 50 percent of schizophrenia patients attempt suicide. The risk of suicide is greater during the first five years of disease, in the months right after hospitalization, and after a psychotic episode. Depression is linked to suidcide risk for people with schizophrenia. If you or someone you know is at risk, contact an hotline or seek professional help.
