Q: Check this out! need answers.

Antihistamines was accidently found to help people with schizophrenia, its name was chlorpromazine. This was the first antipsycotic! It was found in the 1950's Too much histamine is thought to play a big role in schiz.

Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia,

My Mch, Mcv, mchc levels have shown elevated everytime I get them checked. I have gotten them checked for the last 17 yrs. I decided to check into it. Now I know why I stayed tired soo much. being tired all the time is  indicative of b-12 and folate deficency and this in turn b-12 and folate deficency's cause symptoms that can be misdiagnosed as schizophrenia.

I have also found over the years that there are other disorders that can mimic mental illness even schiz. b-12 folate(folic acid)_b-9 deficency. Also hypoactive thyroid(underactive) and many others.

Sleep disorders also can mimic schizophenia is some instances, people who are having hypnogogic hallutionations in their sleep may become sleep deprived and scared to sleep! And afraid to talk about it. Some don't even go into all stages of sleep. Sleep study's can diagnose this problem if they are done right.

Eventhough I have a good person as a psychiatrist he/she has overlooked my medical problem for way to long. Also my medical doctor will not listen to me about this issue so I am pursuing this with my psychiatrist AND I am going to a clinic and getting b-12 shots once a month and supplementing with folate.

The thing I am stressing

Hi sunfire,

Good luck and God Bless You too!

I'm also on Super B complex and take a multivitamin.  I began taking the Super B complex about three or four years ago.  I'm not sure there's a dramatic difference.

One thing I know for sure: I definitely have schizophrenia.  My low thyroid I doubt has anything to do with the fact that I had a breakdown over 17 years ago.

Of course people with other medical conditions might have some of the symptoms of schizophrenia.  Myself I would be reluctant to attribute my illness to anything other than schizophrenia.

Regards,

Christina

My psychiatrist has recently (about a year ago) prescribed Deplin for me, and it is a derivative of folate.  He says it is supposed to boost the effectiveness of the antidepressants I am on (Zoloft and Wellbutrin.)  I also started Super B-Complex vitamins about the same time.  Unfortunately, I did not notice any change with the addition of these meds.  No increased energy, no less tendency to be depressed, no less tendency toward having positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia.  But I was already pretty stable and well into recovery before I started taking them.

I hope you have a good response to the folate and B vitamins.
