Q: Should a mentally ill person not take Seroquel?

My son is schizophrenia and Bioplar.  He is in jail at this time and the nurse at the jail

said it was harmfjul for him to take.

Hello Linda Smithson,

 

Unfortunately, as you are well aware, jails and prisons are often used as mental hospitals.  People who commit crimes because of their psychosis or delusions or paranoia need treatment, not confinement behind bars.

 

I consider it malpractice for a nurse, who is well aware your son has schizophrenia and bipolar, to deny him medication.  Again unfortunately, people with mental illnesses who wind up in jail often only deteriorate because no medication is given to them.

 

I sure hope your son gets out of jail soon and into treatment.

I second what Christina said.  It would be far more harmful for him to NOT take Seroquel than it would be to take it.
