Q: resources

hello i am a social work student studying psychotic disorders. I was wondering:

1. what resources (community or coping mechanisms,) you take advantage of, and

2. also what public resources you would like to see available that currently are not.

thank you very much for your input, it greatly benefits my education.

Thanks,

emily

Hi Emily,

I see a private therapist and a private psychiatrist.  I pay for the psychiatrist out of my own pocket because he doesn't take health insurance.  Years ago I attended a day program and lived in a halfway house and residence.  In June I'll be seeing a cognitive therapist short-term to work on a specific problem.  I used to attend a support group.

Support groups are great resources in the community for people diagnosed with MIs like SZ.

Regards,

Christina

I don't use any community mental health based resources. I have a private pdoc.

Years ago I did. There's a pyschosocial club in town. Members work in 4 different areas. The club had a huge impact on my life. It was a safe place to go. They do good things for the mentally ill.

The state hospital has an outpatient facility. They have groups and counseling.

The Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier is a non profit ogranization that has alot of public education services.

I would like to see a court system for the mentally ill. Also I would like to see more support and services for the mentally ill inmates..such as counseling, survival skills, the importance of taking meds, and housing.
