Q: Do people with schizophrenia tend to take it out on the people closest to them?

All was going well with a boyfriend until lately he has been acting really strange. Thinks people are following us all the time.  He will all of a sudden go into a rage (not physical) and looks really mean in the eyes.   He has done this to me and his brother.  And seems to  have completely blocked us out?

Hi Kate,

If he is doing this, he's most likely not singling you out and it could be a universal tendency, unless part of his paranoia or delusional beliefs involves family and friends as well.  He might have delusions related to you and his brother.

I wouldn't take it personally.

He needs to get help quickly so that a professional can diagnose whether or not he has schizophrenia.

Regards,

Christina

Most likely he is not taking it out on you directly he is probably very scared and he needs medication. He more than likely does not feel this is an act of taking it out on you, ecpecially he did not have that type of attitude toward you before, he probably is having a hard time showing love even though he feels it. please get him some help, take him to a hospital, or mental health facility. Get him checked for other problems that mimic schizophrenia like hypnogogic hallutionations, underactive thyroid while he is on medication for schiz. Get him some relief by finding him a good doctor quickly. Reply
