Q: Is this schitzophrania I'm battling? How do I prove it?

My wife's brother has paranoia schizophrenia. She over the years has told me many a strange story yet I never understood it as mentally ill. I thought they were silly idiosyncrasies. After 8 years of marriage and three beautiful children she decided I molested the children and went to the police! After a long investigation and much heartache she refuses to return home with the children even claiming that she saw me molest my son two years ago! There are some well meaning people that took her in with my kids and they are fighting me since she tells the story with such sincerity! We are now in court and the doctors are telling me that it's very difficult to diagnose her symptoms unless she is honest with the forensic psychologist. I'm worried and wondering if there is anything I can do! She is so determined to destroy me after what she believes I've done to her children! The children show no symptoms of molestation, but I didn't do too well on the Abel screening. I don't think there is anything to save about my marriage but she is not capable to care for the children the way she is. It's more complicating than this but this is roughly the picture. Any ideas?

Hello,

First of all if your ex-wife has schizophrenia she needs to be stabilized on medication.

I do believe your success lies on the strength of your trial attorney and his or her lawyering skills.

Unfortunately if someone with schizophrenia is not deemed an immediate danger to herself or others she will not be hospitalized or given treatment.

Also: some people have a very mild form of schizophrenia while others have a severe form.  People with a mild form can give the appearance of being normal.

This is as you know a "he said-she said" argument.

I think you need to get a competent attorney.

Regards,

Christina
