Hi,

I am new to this site, but I am worried.I am going steady with my girlfreind since past 6 months. She behaves perfectly and there is nothing wrong with her.She is not very expressive. She speaks well and she never gets hallucinations or anything of that sort. She is really sweet and loving. Her elder sister is diagonised with schrizophernia. Her aunt developed SZ later after marriage.I am planning to get married to my girlfreind but since her elder sister suffers from this disease my parents are tensed about the whole issue.I am quite positive towards life. But how can i convince my parents? Is it possible that even my girlfreind gets schirzofernia later after marriage? Is SZ hereditory? Please advice me if I can go ahead with her...Will I be able to have sound children,....?

HI Cedar,

If your girlfriend were to develop schizophrenia, the earlier she got treatment, the better her outcome would be.  If you have read my SharePosts, and Robin Cunningham's, you know that people with schizophrenia can be successful in life.

If you love your girlfriend and are prepared to stick with her through thick and thin, "in sickness and in health," as the saying goes, that's what matters.

I am sorry your parents have a stigmatizing reaction to your girlfriend's family.  I really don't know what I can say about this except to say that in the end it's your decision.  Marriage is a big step after six months yet if you feel you've found the one, you're a lucky man.

Best regards,

Chri
