Q: Are there any doctors who specialize in treating cancer in schizoprenic patients?

I have been told that my 58 year old sister probably has advanced breast cancer.  It is unlikely that she will cooperate with any treatment.

Hi Patty,

I think the answer most likely relates to the specialism and interests of the people in your area. All doctors undergo a period of training in psychiatry but the fact is that doctors tend to specialize in one area. However, people from all walks of life and with all different conditions and diseases are prone to cancer, therefore a cancer specialist will be used to working with a wide variety of people.

It's probably also worth pointing out that treatments frequently come as part of a multi-disciplinary approach that can involve input from several other specialists. If the oncologist can't persuade your sister to become involved in treatment it is possible they may enlist the help of a psychiatrist or other trusted health professional. Within this context I think health professionals will look to family members to help the process along.

my 30 year old son experienced testicular cancer in 2005 underwent surgery in medical facility and the transferred to a psch unit for support and monitoring due to stressful situation of surgery which  body stress can trigger  symptoms unkown to him at this time  his medication at time was oral seroquel went thru many hoops with medical team because the facility did not have an in psch unit and much arranging was done to accomplish this admit after surgery and  next 6 weeks later another surgery was booked because of metastis to abdomen and again son at this time had an acute break the surgical stress and nature of surgery too much and oral medication was not being metabolized thru iv so liqiud haldol used and continued after as a monthly injection to  the present o8  a secret blessing because son is almost sympton free never did as well on the newer anti psych meds then in 2007 experienced a recurrence so next step chemo  and haloperidol injection  was a benefit and he accomplished  10 weeks   all in all you have to advocate and direct medical team they admit they no little about mental illness and ask your own psyh people to confer with med people it is not an easy task and can be very frustrating and aso very stressful on client to receive treatment good luck in your decisions with treatment
