Schizophrenia is a biologically-based brain disorder that affects thoughts, mood, perceptions and behavior.

Positive symptoms include hallucinations [auditory or visual like hearing voices or seeing things] and delusions and paranoia.

Negative symptoms include avolition, lack of motivation, and a blunt affect.

Schizophrenia has a genetic component.  It has early warning signs.

The course of treatment is medication and therapy and psychosocial interventions aimed at enabling the patient to live in society and function to the best of her ability.

Upwards of 60 percent of those diagnosed with schizophrenia recover completely or significantly improve.  Among those who do elss well good improvement is also possible.

I'm the community leader and expert blogger of this web site.  I have schizophrenia and I have a Masters degree and have worked in a professional field for over 12 years.

Schizophrenia runs in my family on my maternal grandmother's side.

Christina

Hayley,

You can find so much information on Schizophrenia. It is a major brain disorder that affects approx. 1 in 100 people. If you have a family member that has been diagnosed your chances increase to 1 in 10. Schizophrenia has been linked to family relations although not all experts agree that it is organic. It is so complex and you really should check out the following websites to learn more and in order to write your report. . . .

You can really be enlightened by these sights. I feel in my community it is heavily misunderstood.  Actually after my research I decided that the most beneficial thing for a schizophrenic is a trused loved one. That's just my own opinion.

Hope this helps,

Brydee
