my friend drinks heavily, he is experiencing hearing voices and becomes paranoid

My friend often drinks heavily for three or four days in a row, then takes a few days off. He hears voices which tell him to do things and becomes increasingly paranoid and jealous particularly in regards to his girlfriend. he can be quite aggressive verbally one minute then happy...
